Anamnesis Highlights

Our Vision

Where Artemis Still Walks is a call to reconnect with nature through embodied storytelling, dance, sound, and projections.

With the participation of professionals, children, and women from the local community, the performance weaves together past and present, giving birth to a future that is more sensitive, interconnected, and in harmony with the Earth.

The performance illuminates Artemis’ primordial role as guardian of life, femininities, and children.

At the same time, the environmental significance of the Erasinos River—a vital ecosystem included in the Natura 2000 network—is brought to the forefront.

Concept

Where Artemis Still Walks will be performed at the archaeological site of the Sanctuary of Brauronian Artemis, one of the most radiant and revered temples dedicated to the goddess in antiquity.

The dreamlike natural landscape of Brauron is an inseparable part of the site's sacredness: a living backdrop that breathes with the memory of the goddess, as the ancients believed Artemis to be the protector of nature, fertility, and all living beings.

Ancient marble relief sculpture depicting a draped female figure with an outstretched arm.

This phrase from the Brauron Museum— "The entire realm of nature belonged to her"— becomes the thematic axis of the performance. It alerts us to the urgent need for reconnection with the earth, with ancestral wisdom, and with the rhythm of life we have forgotten, a rhythm slower, wiser, and deeply rooted in harmony and care.

The experience is immersive, participatory, processional, and ritualistic. Audience members are guided by the performers and the children along a path where each stop reveals a different facet of the relationship between humanity, nature, and the sacred.

Special emphasis is placed on the participation of the 15 girls from Brauron. Their presence is both symbolic and fundamental. They embody the future possibility of a renewed relationship with nature, myth, and collective memory.

Through their embodied participation in an artistic ritual set within a sacred site, the children become expressions of a different worldview, one that honors the earth, the feminine principle, and the sense of community. The performance also functions as a rite of initiation for the generations to come.

Artistic Team

  • Choreography / Direction: Apostolia Papadamaki

  • Original Music Composition: Tryfon Koutsourelis

  • Original Text: Panos Giokas

  • 3D Mapping / Projections: Alexandros Grammatopoulos

Projection
Mapping

The ancient columns come alive with projections of artifacts from the Brauron Museum.

On the performers’ bodies, images of memory and nature—light, leaves, water—merge with the sacred architecture, creating an atmosphere of mystical initiation.

Original Music Composition

The music functions as a sonic body of memory and transition. Through spatialized sound design and the use of natural soundscapes, the composition transforms the landscape’s sounds into a lived experience. The audience becomes a participant in a dialogue between nature, body, and ritual

Audience & Community Participation

The 15 girls from Brauron and the 20 women from Attica participate following a series of experiential workshops. The community becomes an active vessel of the work. Anamnesis acts as a catalyst for intergenerational connection, artistic expression, and ecological empathy.

Audience members are invited to participate at specific moments during the performance, connecting their bodies and senses with the landscape, the myth, and the shared experience. Their involvement deepens the ritual dimension of the work, transforming the performance into a collective act of remembrance and reconnection with nature.

ABOUT US

Since 2002, the non-profit organization Quasi Stellar has been a pioneer in the development of contemporary dance in Greece.

Since 2015, the company has been dedicated to creating immersive, ritual-based works in sacred and archaeological sites through the development of the Anamnesis method — a visionary approach to site-specific performance that bridges myth, memory, and embodiment in ceremonial form.

Quasi Stellar has brought to life powerful performances in legendary locations such as Delphi, the Temple of Apollo Epikourios, the Temple of Poseidon in Sounio, the archaeological site of Delos island, the Minoan Palace of Zakros, and the Sanctuary of the Cabeiri in Lemnos.

________________________________________________________________________

This evolving body of work has been made possible thanks to the generous support of public and private institutions, including the Hellenic Ministry of Culture, the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO), the Region of Crete, and other visionary partners who recognize the cultural, spiritual, and ecological significance of this living artistic legacy.

At the heart of Anamnesis is Apostolia Papadamaki, founder of the project, artistic director of Quasi Stellar, and a pioneer in the field of ceremonial performance.

Apostolia is an internationally acclaimed choreographer, director, embodied spirituality mentor, and scholar of the Ancient Greek Lineage. For over two decades, she has woven ancient mysticism with contemporary expression, transforming performance into a shared rite of remembrance.

  • Her life’s work, Anamnesis, interweaves Ancient Greek Mythology, Philosophy, and History with dance, voice, sound, community and audience participation, activating sacred sites as living portals of collective awakening.

Apostolia has directed and choreographed a wide range of works, from Ancient Greek tragedy to immersive operas, experiential performances, and film. Her methodology unites Logos, Melos, and Orchesis (Word, Music, Movement) into deeply resonant, ritual-based creations.

    Notable works include:

    • Drops of Breath – the world’s first underwater dance performance, created at the Temple of Poseidon.

    • Synergy – the Opening Ceremony of the 12th Paralympic Games in Athens, broadcast worldwide.

    • From Darkness to Light – the first overnight experiential performance in a Greek archaeological site.

Help us bring this ritual performance to life.
